Bari Wesna is an internationally recognized organization representing the worldview of Amazonian Indigenous people, strengthening the local development processes based on the empowerment of Indigenous women and communities, and the conservation of forests in communal territories that mitigate the globalized effects of climate change.
Through various activities and trainings, this project works to strengthen the cultural identity and skills of young people and adolescents who are at risk of losing their values and cultural practices.
The goal is for participants to develop the capacity and/or skills necessary in traditional weaving, dance, singing (masha), gastronomy, as well as reinforcing cultural identity.
Founded inn 2015, Bari Wesna has been working hand in hand with native communities of the Peruvian jungle and local Indigenous organizations directly serving the most vulnerable populations. Their focus areas are: defense of rights, capacity building, revitalization and rescue of cultural practices and protecting their livelihood.
