The 2022 language project supported the healing of the fabric of our Community, Culture and Country, as language bonds all of these together. Particularly the children have been asking after Mirning language and the grant facilitated that extra nudge and sense of support to act.
We see the next stage engaging the Community through social language gatherings. Language and teachings naturally happen when gathered sharing a pot of tea and food. The three main locations for Community will hold gatherings over the first 6 months of 2023 with an aim that this then continues self-funded.
The project will assist another round of language cards and preparing an A2 poster with a 100 Core Words in Yerkla Mirning. This will also offer an opportunity to record the distinct characteristics of the clan dialect by focusing the poster on the Deep Sea Billiaum dialect of the Yerkla Mirning at the heart of Country. The records from the 2022 project will be uploaded onto a free language program.
