The program will be implemented in the town of Chalam in the municipality of Mitontic, with the student community in EMSAD 137 of the Colegio de Bachilleres de Chiapas.
5 workshops will be held to raise awareness about the importance of herbal knowledge and traditional practices, the facilitation of tools for the collection of information on plants medicines and the implementation of a medicinal garden within the school. The program will promote the dialogue of knowledge through a session for the elaboration of products with plant medicines, led by a connoisseur of the community. At the end of the project there will be a meeting for young people to present a catalog of local medicinal plants. More than 240 indigenous families in the municipalities of Mitontic, Chalchihuitán and Huixtán in the Altos de Chiapas region will participate.
The collaboration is meant to strengthen social cohesion and community processes that the organization promotes/accompanies Indigenous youth. Dialogues of knowledge exchange between the young and adult generations to promote agri-food systems that lead to food sovereignty, favoring the production of culturally appropriate traditional foods, will be organized.
Youth will collaborate for the construction of imaginaries that lead to the strengthening of cultural identity and the safeguarding of traditional ancestral knowledge, valuing the biocultural wealth of the territory through a permanent dialogue with forms of life. There is a proposal for the creation of a watershed to extend traditional knowledge on different scales and generate collective biocultural proposals that have a positive impact on the ways of life in Indigenous communities.
