Promoting Nsukka Indigenous Language, Traditional Food and Healing sources is a project that seeks to entrench ancestral wisdom and culture through Indigenous language, food preservation, and craft /cultural promotion.
The Indigenous people of Nsukka are found in eastern Nigeria, home of the Ibo race. In the entire eastern region, the general language of communication is “Igbo”. The “Nsukka” language is also considered Igbo and indigenous to the Nsukka people spoken and understood by the Indigenous people of Nsukka who are indigenous to 7 local government areas of Enugu state Nigeria, with a population of about 400,000 people.
The people are unique in language, traditional food (“Ichipe”,”Otupiri”, “Okpa”, ‘Ebierebe”, Echicha”, “Ayaraya”. “Iho’or”, “Utara”, “Okplogo”, ‘Akpu”) and healing sources such as the N’gborogu roots and herbs used to treat various ailments.
The project supports young people in understanding and valuing ancestral culture with dignity, strength for balanced, effective engagement and continuous linkage to wisdom between youth and Elders for the survival of culture, language, food system and healing sources in Nsukka.
